| In
1973 we ventured into the hospitality industry in a very
small way in Inveraray where we ran our first Bed and Breakfast
just one room in our family home 5 years later we moved
on to live in Dalmally where we renovated a derelict old
Police Station, to finance this project we first rented
out a Caravan in the grounds of the house and then as the
house progressed we rented out bedrooms. We decided to move
to Oban as our family expanded and have been running ‘Dana
Villa’ as a guesthouse since 1981.
We have extended the property over the years and have adapted
our house to the changing needs of guests. We have changed
and modernised the accommodation many times in these years
but not the good old-fashioned hospitality we offer.
We have in 2003 just ventured into a new area of tourist
accommodation for us we have fully renovated and equipped
two ground floor flats in the centre of Oban for letting
as self catering holiday flats. We made this decision after
detecting a trend towards people wanting their own relaxing,
comfortable and fully equipped base to tour the surrounding
area. Click here to visit the
flats. We pride ourselves on renovating these flats
to the highest standards and equipping them with everything
we would want to have on holiday ourselves in a stylish
manner. They have both been awarded 3 star grading from
the Scottish Tourist board.
We have four children Matthew, Laura, Emma, and Iain who
have all helped in the running of the Guest House in the
past and still do when they are at home. We are all very
used to having guests in our home, which we consider the
Guest House to be. It is our home first and therefore we
take pride in our rooms and feel that they are decorated
and furnished in a manner that we ourselves find comfortable
and tasteful.
John and I love to travel and experience new countries and
cultures and have in particular enjoyed our trips to Australia,
North America and South Africa. We have made many friends
both in the countries we visit and here in Oban with people
who are visiting our Country and stay at our Guest House.
John and I both feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful
part of the world.
We
have experienced and enjoyed trips to many countries but
we always love to return to Oban. Even if the weather is
not always thought of as one of Oban's greatest attractions
it is that climate that produces the spectacular countryside
we have. Oban is situated on the West Coast of Scotland
and is therefore in the path of the Gulf Stream, which means
that it is usually warmer here than other parts of Scotland.
On the whole the more settled weather seems to occur in
April and May and then later in the year in September and
October.
There is plenty to do in Oban whatever the weather! We invite
you to come and judge for yourself how lucky we are to live
here in OBAN. John has a passion for sailing and if you
go to the sailing page there is
much more information on sailing in the Oban area.
